Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour

Today we are picked up from our home addresses anywhere in the greater Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch areas and transferred to the airport to join our short flight to Australia.  On arrival in the cosmopolitan city of Sydney we are met and transferred to the  4* Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in the centre of the city.

Enjoy breakfast and then  we join our coach and travel through to the scenic Blue Mountains. We have included a ticket at Scenic World, Katoomba.  Descend into the Jamison Valley on the world’s steepest train, the Scenic Railway, or glide on the Cableway past Orphan Rock and the iconic Three Sisters – you decide. Enjoy a stroll beneath ancient Rainforest canopy at your own pace along the 10 minute, *30   minute and *50 Minute Scenic Walkway. Return to the main building via the Cableway or the Scenic Railway.

Glide past ancient sandstone cliffs, epic valley views and spectacular Katoomba Falls on a return trip on the Scenic Skyway. The Skyway stops on the east side of the valley, where you can jump off to explore Katoomba Cascades, Reid’s Plateau.  We have time here to have some lunch (own expense). We then head to Leura, a beautiful little town where we enjoy a wander at our own leisure before we meet at the Bygone Tearooms and Teapot Museum.

The tearooms and showrooms offer visitors a truly memorable experience – so don’t forget your camera! Home of world’s largest private collection of tea wares, including more than 5,500 teapots from all over the world and spanning five centuries, most items are on display in the Treasured Teapot Museum. We enjoy a  Devonshire tea here before rejoining our coach for our return to Sydney.  Tonight join our Tour Manager for dinner.

Enjoy  breakfast at the hotel.  We then join our coach for a tour of Sydney including the Opera House, Rocks, Double Bay, Bondi along with that famous icon, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and northern beaches.  We will enjoy a light lunch before returning to our hotel with time to relax.

Meet our Tour Manager in the foyer and we are transferred to Mrs Macquaries Point. We have  PREMIUM seats for some of the best views in the house  as we sit under the stars at the most impressive outdoor event in Australia. In 2024, the iconic musical returns to Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour in an electrifying, larger-than-life staging. Experience the greatest score ever written for musical theatre, dynamic dance numbers that soar through the open air, and a love story for the ages. It’s war on New York’s Upper West Side, and the Jets and the Sharks are locked in a fierce turf battle. But as the two teen gangs hurtle down a dangerous path, Tony and Maria cross enemy lines, dreaming of a time and place where they can love freely. Leonard Bernstein’s score is punctuated with hits: ‘America’, ‘Tonight’, ‘Maria’, ‘I Feel Pretty’, and the enduring ‘Somewhere’.

If you’ve never been to Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, Prepare for a remarkable night out.  Take your place in the grandstand by the water to enjoy the enthralling show, complete with live orchestra hidden beneath the dramatic stage and fireworks in the balmy night air.

A late breakfast if you like this morning after your exciting evening.  Time to enjoy some shopping or additional sightseeing.   Your Tour Manager will be there to assist with any options. This evening we join our harbour cruise on one of the most recognised harbours in the world.  Take in the Opera House from a different vantage point and enjoy a delightful dinner as we cruise the night away.  A lovely way to finish our tour.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning.  Time for some last minute shopping before being transferred to the airport for our homeward flight.
