Opera on Sydney Harbour – last seats

Today we are picked up from our home
addresses anywhere in the greater Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch areas and transferred to the airport to join our short flight to Australia. On arrival in the cosmopolitan city of Sydney we are met and transferred to the 4* Sydney Marriott Hotel in the centre of the city.

Enjoy breakfast and then  we join our coach and travel through to the scenic Southern Highlands.

Here we visit Retford Park, built in 1887 by the Hordern family and lavishly redesigned in the 1960’s by James Fairfax.  A stunning “Portuguese pink” mansion where we enjoy a guided tour followed by a short tour of the    pristine gardens dotted with sculptures and    artworks.  We enjoy a light lunch here. For the Bridgerton fans, Season 3 was filmed at Retford Park. A perfect setting!.

We also enjoy a visit to the famous Bradman Oval, a heritage listed cricket ground where Don Bradman’s ashes are scattered. He played at the ground in the 1920’s.  Of course we must also keep an eye out for the statue of Mary Poppins, that beloved magical nanny. Her creator claims that this is the closest birthplace of this fictional character.

Tonight join our Tour Manager for dinner.

Enjoy  breakfast at the hotel.  We then join our coach for a tour of Sydney including the Opera House, Rocks, Double Bay, Bondi along with that famous icon, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and northern beaches.  We will enjoy a light lunch before returning to our hotel with time to relax.  Meet our Tour Manager in the foyer and we are transferred to Mrs Macquaries Point. Raise a glass as the sun sets, then take your seat for an unforgettable performance, with fireworks every night.  High-roller Sky Masterson is looking to win big, but everything changes when he takes a gamble on Sister Sarah Brown, a missionary whose quest to save New York isn’t going quite to plan. At the same time, Miss  Adelaide is hoping her engagement of 14 years might finally result in a wedding, but her fiancée, Nathan, has half the city’s gamblers breathing down his neck. This is musical theatre at its show-stopping best. The score is packed with huge hits, including ‘Luck Be a Lady’, ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat’, ‘Adelaide’s Lament’ and ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before’. Expect big laughs and even bigger song and dance numbers in this   energetic new staging by Opera Australia’s Artistic     Director, Jo Davies. If you’ve never been to Handa Opera on Sydney  Harbour, Prepare for a remarkable night out.  Take your place in the grandstand by the  water to enjoy the enthralling show, complete with live orchestra hidden beneath the stage.

The end of the show and the night sky is lit up with fireworks.  What a night to remember.

A late breakfast if you like this morning after your exciting evening.  Time to enjoy some shopping or additional sightseeing.   Your Tour Manager will be there to assist with any options. This evening we join our harbour cruise on one of the most          recognised harbours in the world.  Take in the Opera House from a different vantage point and enjoy a delightful dinner as we cruise the night away.  A lovely way to finish our tour.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning.  Time for some last-minute shopping before being         transferred to the airport for our homeward flight.
